Fire Arms Safety - Saskatchewan Hunter Education Course

Picture
We all enjoy the outdoors.  Many of us hunt or take up recreational opportunities to compete in shooting competitions, either way, safe handling of firearms is essential to your safety and everyone around you.  Protocols and handling procedures taught by volunteer instructors around our province are vital to safety and proper secure storage of firearms.

Each year, I team up with Greg Sabiston to teach a fire-arm safety course to educate the SAFE course and the FAC course to individuals and youth interested in taking up the sport.

I love the opportunity to engage youth and seeing growth in new skills.  Observing the teaching process and the changes that occur in youth over a very short time-frame is revitalizing.  It is the opportunity to make a meaningful impact and impression on another person`s life.  Plus, I enjoy the added benefit and pride in knowing that I`m helping teach and train future hunters safety, to be responsible firearm`s owners.

If you are interested in taking our course, sign up below and I`ll tell you more about our classes.

I support hunting and the responsible use of firearms.  The greatest thing I love about hunting is the fact that it is humbling!  I am impressed by nature and life when out in the field.  I experience nature and the interaction with wildlife on a scale beyond a walk in the park.  I have developed a deeper respect for wildlife and their habitat.   "But, the single most important lesson learned is that ``success is not guaranteed!``  You can outfit yourself with all the latest gadgets and theories to be successful; but nothing will guarantee you come home with food for the family.  In a world where it is easy to be fooled that you are entitled to all the basics in life; it is refreshing to experience true failure and true success.  True success knowing that it was your skill, your preparation, your planning and your one shot that rewarded you with a harvest.  Nothing is more satisfying or a higher achievement knowing failure is only inches away and you succeeded in your goal."

What can you expect to learn from the Saskatchewan Hunter Education course? (Included: Federal PAL Exam)

As with many things, you get out what you put in. Your instructor will begin with firearm safety and teach you many things about firearms themselves: how to carry and shoot firearms; how to load and unload, clean and store firearms safely.  You will learn the basic skills you need to handle a firearm and hunt safely.

The second part of the course teaches you what is expected of you as a hunter.  What do you think a good hunter should be? How should he or she behave?

We will look at these questions and discover things like a good hunter knows how to identify game.  A good hunter causes no problems for landowners.  A good hunter knows how to look after him or herself in the outdoors.  A good hunter understands what is involved in wildlife management.  A good hunter knows and accepts responsibility for his or her actions.

So you enjoy the outdoors more and the wildlife resource can benefit from your knowledge and actions, we want you to become a good hunter.  Successful completion of this course will allow you to purchase a hunting license in Saskatchewan and set you on your way to being the best hunter you can be.
